Morning,

Does anyone have any experience with Matetron DSM 250?

http://www.maretron.com/products/dsm250.php

i believe they may be fitted to some larger motor boats to display engine / tank information??

im no marine electrician but believe my engine outputs on J1939 which once put through a gateway to convert to NEMA 2000, this display should show engine information through the panel...

other option is to use a networked plotter to display same info but i would rather have a plotter for navigation and separate screen for engine info....

appreciate its a bit specific but i know theres some very clever people around here!!!

Thanks

I have a dsm250 in my upper dash on the new boat. Pics on the sq78 in-build thread. I haven't had long enough to get to know it yet though. Can report back later.

Normally I would just fit another plotter becuase the graphics are better than dsm250 and you then have plotter back up, but I got the dsm 250 because it allows me to program/configure the nmea2k - j1939 interface boxes; plotters wont do that and will only display nmea2k data

The dsm is very difficult to flush fit. The flange is like 2mm only. I had Axon machine-cut the panel so was ok. The instructions with the dsm 250 are quite funny on this point: they actually say "we're sorry but we made the flange too small and ..."

many thanks.

i thought about the second plotter option and havent discounted it yet. the dsm is the cheaper option.

im a little concerned about getting my engine talking to any unit. i believe it outputs on J1939 and the Steyr guys have had success in getting the engines to talk to garmin so far but thats it. the alternative is their own control system but that is CRAZY money.

will look through your build thread to see if i can find any pics of the unit in situ. interesting what you say about the flush fit. that is a disadvantage as would rather it be flush mounted on the rib.
