With many threads dedicated to the price of insurance, policy terms and conditions, small print and, I suppose ineveitably, more on claim issues than resolution I am delighted to advise complete satisfaction with Mardon following Phaeton's recent surprise contact with something hard in Poole Harbour (on the way to fuel and meet Geoffs).

as some may remember some 6 years ago and rather new to both this boat and services at the location I fell foul of the industry big time with basically no clue how to proceed and no party seemingly interested in anything except their own pockets. Of the 4 firms involved at that time 1 was sold, 2 ceased trading or quietly moved away and only the insurers remain. Whilst they were only doing their job I had naivly thought they were looking after my interests (or at least fair play) and over the following years developed a phobia about claims etc!

This time it just couldn't be more different - engineers talking to claims underwriters, clearly laid out alternative solutions and costs and finally, amazingly, the insurers proposing/agreeing a slightly more expensive replacement approach over a strip and rebuild that would clearly take some time to accomplish and carry an element of risk of future problems.

OK we have to get the work completed and everyone paid but even the written confirmation takes a whole load of my mind.

Even the boatyard were overly reasonable and out to help rather than take advantage!

Finally we think we may also have found out what we hit - we were passing the uptide position of a large barge used to store mooring bits (with hindsight we think it was still in it's downtide position as the tide was only lightly flooding) and it is believed that a concrete block found it's way over the side shortly before our passage........it may well be sunk in the mud by now but I will run a sonar scan (at high water!) when I am back in just to check.

I realise that this is only one view but, as others have posted, Mardon are competitively priced with good renewal service etc and here's a first hand claims experience. Having been with them for about 12 years I hope I can manage another 30!

Glad that you're getting a result Duncan. Which yard is she in?

Whereabouts was the mystery object?

We were out and about at the weekend but had to abandon Blackfeather yesterday at Poole Quay Boat Haven because the wind was blowing so hard at 90 degrees to the pontoons. I only just managed to get her into a berth on Saturday evening and I apologise to anyone who was berthed nearby as they must have been fearing for their wallets as I pirouetted up and down the marina.

Hoping to go down tomorrow to put her back to bed.

Glad it's it looks like being sorted, Duncan. You did damn well getting out at all for that weekend, over 3 weeks ago now.

I was with Mardon for 8 years, never had to make a claim. When I got the Larson they were not competative for some reason, went with GJW who were nearly £200 cheaper.

Maybe Mardon don't like American boats. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Great too hear a good report once in a while, and very happy its about Mardon.
I have been insured with them since i started boating 5 years ago, and always been very happy with the renewal quotes, and discounts offered, but as said recently not had any experience with them regards making a claim.

Good to hear it all went well for you.

Regards,

Al.
