Marbella

Does anyone know what marina are down in Marbella. We're thinking of moving the princess somewhere warmer for the winter.

The SWMBO has been reading womens magazines that say Marbella is the new south of france....

Any help appreicated.

There are two marinas. The more westerly one is the yacht/motor boat one and the easterly one is the old fishing harbour which now (or for last 5/6/7/ years) has yachts and mobos as well. The fish harbour has excellent modern shower block etc and has a number of British liveaboards. A mate of mine had his boat there for 4 years and only brought it home this year. From what I know there is a long wait to get in either of these harbours. They are both in the centre of town.

There's Puerto Deportivo (the 'leisure port') in the centre of town - small and full up.

There's Bajadilla on the eastern outskirts (the 'fishing harbour') which is where we are, and which is also small and full up. Well, it's not really, but there are no spare berths because the empty ones are owned and the capitania won't use them except in unusual circumstances. For the last few weeks the marineros have been turning away hopeful boats left right and centre, even the Spanish ones. Even the German boat that sailed in ordering by emphatic gestures all and sundry to get out of his way and make a space for him to berth into. No surprise there, then.

Puerto Banús just beyond Marbella on the western side is big, may have spare berths, but is unpleasant, open to wandering grokels of which there are tons, and very expensive.

Recommend you consider Estepona or La Duquesa - busy but with slightly greater space potential. Fuengirola is often full up. Benalmádena is big and often very noisy. La Caleta, the other side of Málaga is often recommended by our capitania to disappointed yotties. We've stayed there and it's quite nice, although a bit of a trek to the shops.
