Colin i pay £1100 a year approx for a 8 metre berth inc electric, water,
there is a waiting list. i am 35 miles east of Gibraltar.
There is a new marina development at Algeciras (mile or two)west of Gib.
Best to take some time out over there and ideally find a berth first
Berths in the med are becming difficult to obtain.
My boat is 57`, Algeciras is a dump! With refineries, ferries and full of dodgy morocans. Yes, I have been there. Yes, I do know where Marbella is. I do realise berths in the meddy are hard to find, having been there for two years now. So basically you are telling me the place is full and dont come there hoping for a berth, so, it`s the same as everywhere else in the med. Thanks for the information.
You will probably get in at Ceuta ,Barabate,Rota.
Puerto Pesquero is new to pleasure craft, only been up and running for a little more than three years,it is 1 mile east of Marina Marbella ,should be o/k for a day or two`s stop, quiet a large waiting Pantalan.
Fuel Pontoon open Tues/Thurs 10am/2pm and 5 ish to 6.30ish.
Pleased to offer more info if required?Hasta Luego Migel

Algeciras:
There is a new Yacht club marina, South of the mess that you have identified as Algeciras. The new basin is clean (pristine, in fact), and seems reasonably secure. The 'Straits Sailing' local pilot book says (IIRC) that "there is little to attract the visiting yachtsman" (or somesuch). I think they are just trying to keep people away so they can enjoy it themselves. In fact, it has a rather excellent little Tapas restaurant, and is worth a visit (if only a lunchtime stopover). It would certainly be a useful alternative if you can't get into Gib, and conditions aren't comfortable for hanging off the hook at the end of the runway (or round at La Linea)...
Re Marbella: I tried to get in there twice this summer - each time there were "no available berths". I believe the marina is mainly private berths in fact. Also, I am 60ft (maybe also a limiting factor)... ended up anchoring just outside, and dinghying in. (Marbella is a much nicer place than I expected - there is a very picturesque little square full of orange trees and restaurants up in the older part of the town...)
