I`ve been using the excellent Chart Navigator Pro as chart software on my laptop but due to a change of laptop, I now need an activation code. Spoke to Maptech UK & they don`t handle Chart Navigator anymore. A company in the USA called www.richardsonscharts.com now handle Maptech stuff but they can`t give activation codes for UK charts !!!! Anyone had experience of trying to get an activation code recently ? It was/still is a very popular bit of software (AIS integration etc). There must be a few of us out there.

I was a Maptech "Offshore Navigator" user until a couple of seasons ago. When I tried to renew for a new computer at least two years ago I got the same result as you. I put a lot of effort into trying to solve the problem and even found an operation that said they were going to handle it for the UK. All of this has since gone down the tubes and I have given up.

I now use SeaClear with the "Visit my Harbour" charts. This would satisfy my needs but for 2 limitations.

1. I cannot upload routes to the handheld GPS72 in the cockpit.
2. It has no tides. I have an Android tablet (and phone) running Navionics for that.

I prepare routes on the tablet, bluetooth them to the laptop, and use "gpsu" as a babel fish to translate them for SeaClear, Google Earth, OS Mapfinder and many other toys. GPSU can also send them to the handheld. It is a richer system than the old Maptech based one, but much more hassle.

I also gave up on Maptech charts about 2 years ago when my netbook 'died'. I was actually using them with the excellent OpenCPN programme but they still need valid keys to run and these are no longer available. Like others I now use the Visit My Harbour (UKHO raster) charts. However, these are only available for the UK so for trips to France I have to use the old CM93 charts.

I have recently discovered that NV Charts do raster chart packs for France. The packs include paper passage charts, detail (harbour) charts and a CD of the same charts that runs on OpenCPN, apparently. I have no knowledge of their quality.

If anyone has any experience with these charts, especially on OpenCPN I would love to get some feedback. I will open a new thread to avoid hijacking this thread

Thanks Playtime & Amulet.

Sounds like they have snuck away to the US without much thought for us. It was good while it lasted. I`ll follow up your suggestions for alternatives, Thank You.
