Maplins - Great service!

For a long time have never quite got around to ordering all those handy little things from the Maplin catalogue that would be useful on boars such as the labeling machine, infrared thermometer, gas soldering kit with hot knife facility and the 2 for one digital multimeter.

Well 2 days ago I did get around to ordering all of the above, got the usual email confirming the order and gave me a tracking number for the DHL delivery telling me not to use it before midday on Friday.

Goods arrived less than 24 hours after making the order. Very impressive but the free multimeter was missing. I phoned them and was promised it would be sent soon. It also arrived the next day.

Good prices and excellent service. Will be using them again.

[/ QUOTE ] Yes they are all geared up to a fast delivery. Quality of some items not so good sometimes i suspect. I gave up with a radio controlled alarm clock, the prods of your cheap multimeter will fall off the wires but the meter itself is fine.

(your fault with the free meter I expect ... you should have ordered 2 then you get one free, if you only order 1 you only get 1 )

As long as you live in the UK, anywhere else and you cannot have delivery via internet ordering.

A catalogue must be obtained and you must order by telephone !!! It's sad because I liked to use them too but not at the price of an international phone call.

In the world of voice-over-internet are international calls expensive anymore? Costs me the same to call London as it does to call most of Europe and the US.

Works to Holland. Delivery was 3-4 days if I recall and cost £7.50.

Yes thats good for you telephoning from the UK...but at this time of year I am in Hungary and oh boy does it cost! - BTW Hungary is in the EU but half the EU doesn't know it! /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I think RickP was suggesting using something like the SkypeOut facility on Skype. I would assume you'd pay UK prices if you have a UK account ( here ) so about 1p a minute but watch for premium numbers 'cos they still cost a fortune if you don't spot them /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Rates to dial a specific country using Skype are constant, but you can pay in local currency. Hungarian prices are here
