many thanks to Wiggo for the info on the Lidl electric paint scraper. I'm much too tight to pay someone to strip of 10 years of anti foul. Went to Lidl paid my £14-99 to be honest not expecting too much.

tested it out this morning -

did one side of 40 foot boat in 4 1/2 hours,
absolutely fantastic, really easy

highly recommend it, seems well made too. As I still have the other side to do, I'm going to buy another one tomorrow just in case.
many thanks Wiggo /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The one near us (so I'm told /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ) has a centre aisle that they fill with specials that change from week to week. It's complete pot luck what they have in, but you can check on their website. This week, it's paint scrapers, motorbike jackets, table lamps, dumbells, slippers, statues and bath taps. Next week: fire extinguishers (1Kg dry powder for £4.99), men's underwear, tights, video surveillance...

Hi hlb,

I don't reckon they do. I've shot into the Plymouth store three times now after reading about 'super deals' on the Forums, only to get blank looks from the staff. Perhaps they think Plymouth doesn't have any leisure boating activity? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I must say I am impressed with your staff- they have marvelous memories. I can almost visualize my local store just from your descriptions. Ahem...

Also have a look at Aldi website for boaty items.
Last week Kevlar Gloves
Last year bought binoculars with compass and grid viewfinder for £49.99 Look the same as the £89 bins in Chandlers catalogues.

If you check the web page and put your post code in it will tell you what is on offer at your own lidl.

Then put a coastal lidl in to see what is on offer to see if it is worth a 'special' day out to the sea side /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Yes, I do check the local store availability on-line NOW, the three visits where before I used to. The point I'm making is that there is virtually never any of the items you guys talk about 'booked' for the Plymouth store, hence my final comment! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I really can't see why one of their stores, in such a yachting/boating centre, should have so few of these offers, but guess it must be because they only have so many of a particular item available so they send it to the nearest stores.
Either that or, things have changed dramatically in the last few months since I gave up trying/checking!! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Kevin, which blade did you use? I bought one of these scrapers to take the paint off my GRP decks, and remove antifouling next Winter. I tried one of the chisel shaped blades on a door at home and it tended to dig in to the surface - I don't want this on my decks or hull!

I used the widest most rigid blade at full speed. (looks like a triangle)
I also found that you need to hold at at @ 50 degrees to the surface on anti fouling. Occaisionally I did nick the gell coat on corners, but it will take much less time to fill the oddnick than doing it by hand.
I don't think I would try it on wood that was not going to be painted over as it is quite an aggresive action
