Background: The harness between my 2003 engine and the instrument panel is fully populated but there is no connection (Red/Green) between Pin 7 on the 16way engine harness connector (panel end) and Pin 2 of the 9way (Mate-n-Lok?) for the panel pcb. [This wire is allocated to 'Glow Plug indication' but the 2003 does not have a glow plug and the lamp is therefore not wired and free to be used for other purposes]. I wish to use this spare indicator for a coolant flow alarm and therefore need to add just a 15cm piece of wire using, hopefully the correct connector pins. Despite searching Maplin, RS and Farnell plus a search to check if this has been raised before, I have found nothing to help me source the pin inserts for these two connectors.

My question is: Has anybody found the manufacturer's part numbers for these connectors and the pin inserts?

Hopefully
Bob

If you could post a photo of the connector, if I recognise it, I may be able to help. I have several different types of automotive terminals which aren't available through mainstream electronic components suppliers.

Ian?
Thanks for replying. Attached, hopefully, are front and side shots of both connectors.

After considerably more (very tedious) trawling, I think I have found what I was looking for - thanks to Warren Buffett's company Mouser.com, which I found much easier to use than RS or Farnell. So, for the record, here is what I believe to be correct.

Both connectors are Tyco (TE)/AMP products
The 9 pin is a 0.140 MATE-N-LOK:-
PLUG 1-480672-0 with contacts 350388-1 or, possibly 925661-1
Mating half 1-480673-0

The 16 pin is a TE CPC Series 1, Shell size 17, Arrangement 17-16, Standard Sex (has socket contacts):-
PLUG 206037-1
Tin plated contacts for 1.5mm wire are 1-66101-9 or 66590-1

Here's hoping sourcing 15cm of Green/Red wire won't be so tortuous

Ill agree with that, if youcan get gold contacts do as we had problems with the tin plate ones in the 80s early 90s
Caused by fretting http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fretting took until last year to discover the reason when it showed up in another product.
CPC crapy plastic connectors as they were known.

Out of interest what problem did you get ?

Since the late 80's we must have fitted 150,000 pins in JST connectors for Sealine switch panels, cannot say we have seen many problems though.

The fretting referance was a more general one, the problem in our case on lighting desks using similar molex products to the tyco ones appeared as oxidisation on the pin and in the female causing intermittant connections.
It wasnt until last year when a similar problem appeared in a light fixture that I found out what fretting was and realised that it had been the cause all those years ago. The desks that never moved didnt suffer, those out on tour did in the end I just bypassed the plugs with soldered wire links made servicing harder but since the reliability went up 500% so that was not much of a problem. As for the CPC connectors they just werent robust enough for our uses.
