Mannanin\'s Cloak.........

Not a bad day on the rock until someone upset Mannanin (Manx folklore tells of an ancient version of Simon Cowel that roamed the Island), when he gets miffed or wants to shelter the Island from invaders he draws his cloak around the Island, which of course is all perfectly true and plausible juts like the fairy's at Fairy bridge :-) .

Seen it a few times but not as fast as it descended today, one minute all is well the next you can't see your hand in front of you. My balcony is only 150 metres from the cliff face of Onchan head and it just hung right up against the cliff and not an inch further, like a wall of dry ice.

Went to the shops and was really disorientating on the prom, with out sat nav or a compass you couldn't tell which way was which, I could have been driving backwards on the wrong side of the road for all I knew !.

In the middle of all this below there was a research ship anchored, the Super Seacat coming in, the Ben My Chree Ro Ro going out and the smaller sea cat changing berths and then a load of ickle boats all wondering which was was home, all tooting and blowing horns trying to figure out where everyone was.

There is supposed to be a bay in the middle of this, you are looking across to Douglas head of which you can just see the top of on the other side.

Spooky!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I know there are a hundred Absolutes in the bay in that picture too, its just the fog is covering them at the moment, just use your imagination and you'll see them!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Cheers

Re: Mannanin\'s Cloak.........

Mrs S drove through Douglas up to Onchan (just by you actually) to see someone yesterday 3pm. It was clear all the way to Douglas until she drove into a wall of mist at Onchan. Was there someone you were hoping to avoid yesterday /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Incidentally, I am working lots on Ameera (North Quay by Newsons) at the moment, in my new career as a boat bum. I will be on her most of today today and probably much of next week, feel free to drop by and if I'm aboard we can get a coffee.

Ha!!!!!

I was out in it.................aint radar wonderful...but we only made out the Sugar Loaf rock from about 25 metres. and saw the breakers before the higher bits

Actually it gives me a lot more con fidence in thwarting Mannanan.....

It cleared away later so coming in was VFR..

Cheers all /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
