Hi all.

Setting off this morning we realised that there was a hole in the exhaust manifold/elbow (about 10 mm x 4mm) and so had to head back in :-(

Has anybody had experience in fixing similar with a high temp epoxy putty?

Its either that or trying to get somebody to braze/weld the thing.

Cheers

The leak you see is usually just the tip of the iceberg! Plastic metal to get you home, BUT it will need a new elbow to fix it properly!

Agreed. In fact I've never found welding to be an effective permanent repair either.

hmm that's what I was thinking in the longer term.

Unfortunately it's an old YSM12 so parts are not that easy to track down - unless anyone has a suggestion.

The thing is that the beast just keeps on going and the previous owner had the top end serviced so I am keen to perceiver with it.

Have tried the Gun Gum and bandage which is curing over night - I'll see if it holds tomorrow. If not its plan B.

Cheers chaps.

Wrap it with non-adhesive silicone compression tape. Stretch the tape as you apply it and make each turn overlap the previous turn by at least 50 percent. It will withstand temperatures up to 260C and pressure of 700 psi.
The long term fix is a new elbow, of course.

Really?

I bought some of this from you and its sat in the tool box.

Thanks, I may give it a go as a stop gap.
