Hello Guys
Anyone know how to change engine mounts on a Sunseeker Manhattan 64 with MAN D2848 LE-403 V8 diesels

Is this a possible DIY job? Does the boat need to be taken out of the water?

Thanks
Ray

You would be better posting this on the MOBO forum as that is where folks post who might know about this - although TBH doubt many would have experience of this as a DIY job, or indeed ever having such things replaced at all!

As mentioned above, this would be better in the MOBO forum, but I've done them - it's not easy without a crane, and not a DIY job unless you are a competent engineer.

To do them in situ needs a hydraulic jack and wooden supports made to go between the bearers. You do them one at a time, loosen off each mount, jack up each corner just enough to remove. Set back down, adjust jack/bearers and repeat.

It's not a job for the faint of heart.....

Why are you changing them? Have they delaminated or been destroyed by diesel or oil?

Fairly heavy engines and big bolts etc but really not that much to the actual changing of the mounts assuming you can jack it up easily.

You will probably be forced to disconnect the shaft on a close coupled engine but may be able to do it without. Sometimes it's easier to take the hanger off the engine than mess with the shaft.

If find these bolts are the most neglected and can be an utter pain to get off. Heat or occasionally cutting equipment may be needed. I had to weld a rod to an Allen bolt on a cummins last week.....grrr some inventive tactics are sometimes required to aid removal!

Now the lining back up is the tricky part. And it's not a matter of putting the new ones in the same place though you might be closer than slinging them in there!

General advice is to get the engine aligned vertically first then gently rubber hammer the mount tops and bottoms to get your self aligned horizontally. Once your there you need to make sure at the mounts are straight in both planes and then fine tune. You need to get the loading on the mounts even too depending on your intall you may require differently rated mounts forward and aft.

Post some pictures and I can make some more specific comments.

It is time for my 20 year old engine mounts to change on an identical boat with identical engines.

Wondering how the job went and what engine mounts did you use?
