I have read the thread overwintering in Malta posted in Sept. of last year and MEDMANS excellent reports.

We are planning to winter in Malta next year. I understand that Msida is nice. Can anyone advise of a Marina (Msida included) where they have good yard facilities and a safe secure hard standing for winter storage from December to March 2007.

Apart from 3 boatyards in private hands, the main boatyard in Malta is at Manoel Island, and is owned by Malta Maritime Authority as is Msida and parts of Grand Harbour.

Prices for pontoon berths in Malta Maritime Authority marinas over 7 months (Oct-April) are very reasonable - they have to be paid in advance and are for the fixed 7 months with no pro-rata reduction. They are also in very short supply. Prices during the season are about average for the Med (£M15/night for 10m)

Prices in the privatised yards are very variable and subject to on-the-spot negotiation (well most things in Malta are).

Haul-out at Manoel is closely comparable to UK prices - and standing prices during late winter and spring fit out prices are x4 what they would be during the sailing season. Top price is about £M100/week (£166/week UK sterling). Standard of work at Manoel is probably amongst the best in the world and rates are 25-35% of UK.

If you want any more detailed information, including contacts, phone# etc, please send me a PM.

recently bought our Catalina 42 in Malta and she is now in Msida Creek Marina until lift out at Manoel Island next month.
Up to now I must agree with Charles, work done and general helpfulness in Malta has been great.
In particular Christian from S& D yachts has been a real asset makes a change from most brokers.
