Does anyone know if this engine has a fuel filter and where its fitted

I dont see a filter mentioned but it might be a good idea to fit an in line filter like other (later?) models if possible

A fuel filter came with a spares kit I bought for my malta - however like you, I could not find one on the fuel line! I have never fitted it - perhaps I should.

You need to remove the fuel line from the bottom of the fuel tank and the filter is located up into the tank.
Took me a while to find it when I serviced mine.

I do believe it is in the tank.

Ask your dealer, best way forward.

I have found the fuel filter, it's a tiny plastic sleeve which sits inside the right hand side tube of the fuel shut off valve, ie the tank side, it can be pulled out using pointy nose pliers or by removing the shut of lever[small phillips screw]and pushing a blunt rod from the other side of the valve.

Absolutely right!!!

I had months of trouble until i found this out.

Throw it away and put a proper one in-line.
