Is September out of season for berthing fees in marinas in mallorca... Or is it later. I moored in alcudia last May and it was out of season and cheapish for a 50+ foot yacht. Tried to log on to alcudia web page having no luck at the moment....

I guess 50+ foot is too big for moll transit.

Trying to work mooring options out on the island for a couple of weeks.

It varies marina by marina. Portals and Cala dor are quite generous. Other start the summer season really early.

The season falls off a cliff on 1 sept and I would imagine some come off peak. The cheeky ones will hold out to November! Best check their web site.

Also the govt marinas goto 15 m

I parked in the govt. marina at Porto Cristo in August a couple of years ago. I am 20m LOS. No problem. I would have parked in the private marina but they were full. No body seemed to be around the otherside and there were a few empty spaces so we parked there for a couple of days.

Nobody even bothered to come and ask us for money! We could have easily left without paying.

Just had a quote for a 20m berth for Sept and Oct at Alcudia, 2.043,19 € a month.

Hi Simon

That was about the price that we paid last year for a month in Alcudiamar (June)
Be warned though
They allocated us a berth in the basin attached to the boatyard.
I complained that those berths weren't 20m - they wouldn't have it.
So, I upgraded to a 23m berth on the posh bit.
Rather than kick up a stink, I pleaded with them and the port captain gave us a discount - the 23m was then nearly the same price as the 20m one.

Just be warned - make sure you get a good berth - if you have one in the boatyard basin you will have to walk through the boatyard to get to the boat.

I thought you were on your way back to SC anyway!!

EDIT
At the time of typing this, we are all fueled, provisioned and ready to leave SC at crack of dawn tomorrow.
South Mallorca is the destination this year - looks a bit windy in the north.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for that, I will check to see that we get a good one.
We are in Alicante at the moment, but leaving on Thursday for Formentera and Ibiza, and then off to Palma. We are going up to Alcudia for Sept and Oct and then plan to come back to SC for the winter. We have changed boats now and there is some doubt over us fitting on our berth, Angeles has said to bring it to the Marina and see!

Cheers, Simon.

Hi Simon
What is the new boat?
We are in Mallorca at the moment
Sheltering from the southerlies in Palma Nova
Moving onto the Trenc and Cabrera when the weather lets us (early next week)
Cala D'Or then for a couple of weeks and probably take another couple of weeks to get home to SC via Ibiza
So, if we know what boat to look out for, we may see you somewhere out here.

Mike

Mallorca here we come

Hi Guys hope you are enjoying the heat.
We are coming out on Thursday and looking to head up from Porto Colom to Alcudia to pick people up on Saturday.
Had the boat on a mooring buoy for several weeks at Porto Colom as it was the cheapest option whilst not there.

Hoping to make our way round the island and then off to Ibiza via San Antonio so if anyone knows how full its is for a 15M berth please let us know?
Regards Nigel on Suenos

Hi I'm in San Antonio now, there is a good turnover of berths each night, I would certainly suggest you try and book in advance. Having said that we have been here 5 nights and could have anchored out every night bar one.

Ladies in office very nice, very well staffed here with marineros ready to help you with your lines at the drop of a hat.

San Antonio is a bit like marmite. Love it or hate it.... I have to say I find the English revellers appalling. How people drink at 8am is beyond me and the language of the folk. Shocking. Having said that it has proved its purpose for my guests this week.

Hi Mike

I'm booked into Cabrera next week. I could only get the 12th as it seems quite popular nowadays.

We are in Ibiza at moment crossing to Palma on Thursday ready to get new guests on the 11th... Is Trenc busy? I was thinking of going there for a day or two but want to avoid the madding crowds...

Regards

Lawrie

That brought a smile to my face.:D

I spent a couple days in Es Trenc a few weeks ago, it can get busy there, but there is so much space you should be able to easily find a nice spot, just watch out for the toys (particularly those launched from Jenny Wren)!

Cabrera was busy even in June – we had to book different buoys each night that we stayed. Nice and peaceful though.

A couple of images taken in Es Trenc late June:

No doubt Mike will update you later…..

Odd I uploaded the right link with the
but it seems to have truncated it when posted up..... Will try again later.

Was over there myself 3 weeks ago, beautiful place, fantastic beach….. except I had an enormous row with one of the life guards! Despite using the marked channel into the beach (of course filled with swimmers!) we attempted to anchor the jet rib in the channel…. unfortunately it seems that is not allowed, you have to anchor outside the channel, about 100m out and swim back in:ambivalence:

I pointed out how ridiculous this was, but it changed nothing, why? he could not provide an explanation! Seems the lunatics have taken over the asylum, the beach bar owners who pay a phenomenal rent to the local council, are losing all the business from the anchored boats. Meanwhile it looks like packed lunch on the boat when visiting Es Trenc… shame I fancied paella:D

Its pretty normal not to be allowed to anchor in the channel (not just at es trenc but anywhere on the island)but they usually allow you to drag the dinghy up the beach, would they not let you do ths?

That was suggested, but have you ever tried dragging 400kg on to a beach? Pretty galling really as shortly afterwards a group of 8 jet skis turned up, tied to the marker bouys & sauntered into the beach bar… noticeably they were Spanish, probably local (big guys!)… nothing was said or done, life guard nowhere to be seen! By the way the channel is at least 50m wide, so a few anchored ribs wouldn't impede anyone. We have been boating in the balearics for over 30 years and sometimes I wonder whether the locals really want boat tourism.

We had the same problem at Santa Ponca, lifeguards were turning all ribs away trying to access the beach via the marked channel saying that it was there for the watersports operators only. Not sure that's right, but at least there are other locations to tie up and get ashore there.

I guess if its not possible to drag the rib up the beach then youve got no choice. Is that what a williams jet rib weighs? I had no idea, you always see a few dragged up on the beach, so assumed it was possible?

They seem to be getting more and more strict with regards to allowing boats up the channels, 20 years ago it was no problem, these days its hit and miss as to whether its allowed. I noticed this year that at a lot of beaches (santa ponca and palma nova for example) theyve extended the protected swimming areas further out to sea, making it a fair old swim to get to shore from an achored boat.
