There seems to be a storm brewing ....

Monarch went bust and BA bought the slots - so no new carries on the London / PMI route.

Norwegian have entered in to a long haul connect deal with Easyjet. The price of that is apparently a non complete on European routes. Norwegian stop flying to Mallorca in March.

The price of flights is astounding. For May have term £400 one way and on Tui who are heralded as having a new base on the island £560 return and that flight is at 2am!

Mallorca has a war on tourism and I have a feeling it will get is way as the cost of flights will genuinely push people away. I commute in effect and the flight cost used to be small change - now it is very material.

The mainland at a third of the price and cheap flights will now easily balance out the cost of fuel to the Islands for the season.

To be fair J when we were based in Palma and as you know that was a few years ago now, I used to reckon on an average £300 return per person although cheaper flights were available if you shopped around. It always seemed to me like an expensive place to fly to for reasons I never understood. Having said that, the planes were always full so maybe that was the reason. You know what the answer is. Sell the kids and dont fly during school holidays or half terms;)

I fly from manchester to palma - so it may be different if you're flying from down south, but I've just booked all my flights for this year, and they're pretty much the same cost as they have been for the last few years.

Flights during the May half term week have always been the most expensive flights of the year for me, although I'm not paying anywhere near what you are quoting above, mine are coming in at £290 per person return. As ever though the devil is in the detail, or more specifically the exact date and times you need to fly.

The average cost per 'trip' over the year is working out at around £220 per person return, which as I said earlier is pretty comparable with the last few years.

Majorca has always been expensive to fly to compared to other locations on mainland spain, I guess its just supply and demand.

We were having drinks with the yacht berthed behind us in the summer, and they had relocated from the Balearics due to an across-the-board, >40% hike in berthing fees in one year. If they are reading this thread, it will confirm they made the right decision.

Makes you wonder where it will end, as even man maths has limits eventually ....

I guess it depends on the day of the week
£14.99 each way Manchester to Palma in Jan - Ryanair.
or £35 to £40 each way Bristol to Palma in May
These prices seem about the same as usual.

There’s a new airline running out of bhx next year Primera air I have booked a few flights with them for june July and reserved extra legroom seats with 23 kg hold luggage was coming out at £80 per pax each way

Flight prices to Palma are always a problem at half term, particularly May, perhaps it's due to desperate UK residents trying to get some sun after our usual winter/spring weather! If you can get away a day or so before or after they are massively cheaper.... supply & demand I'm afraid

Skyscanner in the whole month search still seems the best method, just got to remember to put it in the same airport out and in mode !

Agree but they are alot higher at the moment as there is really only EasyJet and BA left.

...from London ;)

Glasgow Fair is the horrific time for flights up here so last year we looked at Manchester since you can get the train straight to the airport. £400+ each from Glasgow or Edinburgh, £192 including train tickets for 2 of us flying back to Manchester. Sky scanner suggests mid-May out of Manchester via Jet2 or Ryanair is a lot cheaper than London.
