Hi

I'm about to go on a one week sailing bareboat charter in Mallorca, picking the boat in Palma. Any advice welcome esp' about suggested route, stop overs, marina charges, restraunts does and dont's etc...

The crew being the wife and a five year old, so don't want to go far. West to Puerto Andraitx and east to Porto Colom.

Thanks for any help.

More help...

English speaking weather forecast info also appreciated. Frequency / channel / timings etc
Thanks again

I chartered there a couple of years ago We did: Palmanova (anchored), cala pi (anchored), cala d'or marina (2 nights), porto cristo, colonia sant jordi (anchored) and the final night back in palma.

Cala d'or was very expensive about 75euros a night however there was 7 on board and the costs were shared. I bought an old pilot book from the 70's for a fiver to help plan the journey before we went but in the end that plan went out the window, mainly due too the large amounts of alcohol and late nights. Porto Cristo has a town quay cheaper than the marina but without the swimming pool.

As said there was 7 on board and all Lads, if I'd have gone with the family I would miss palmanova (unless Blackpool in the sun is your thing) and not stay anywhere for 2 nights (we needed the rest) apart from that i was happy with the other places we visited, Cala Pi was crowded but we arrived late so Anchored in a small cala just at the entrance to cala pi itself.

Weather is broadcast on VHF in english and spanish though i never managed to understand it anyway, the forcast is also displayed in the harbour masters office's.

hope this helps in some way, reply or PM me if theres anything else i can help you with

Can't really comment on the specifics although I have chartered from alcudia and there is a big marina there which is on the waterfront so short walk to places to eat. However in general terms INMHO the north is much nicer than the south which is more kiss me quick and fish & chips.

There is a marina in Peurta Polenca although it didnt seem finished last time I wandered up there and again get a cab or bus up to the old town which is much prettier than the sea front.

Sola is a pretty little place get the tram up from the waterfront to the very nice town centre. I'm not sure whether it has a marina but they certainly have moorings in the bay.

Soller is really nice, the mooring pontoon is council run and very cheap. Andraixt is very nice and you can use the pool at the Yacht Club if you use their moorings, top tip to eat there ia El Coche, very nice family run place. At Santa ponca we usually anchor off in the right hand corner of the bay, quite close in with a kedge set. Top food tip El Meson del Mar just above where you anchor.
At portals you should be able to moor on the fuel berth if you arrive just as it closes but will have to be off by 08.00 in the morning. Top food tip is The Binnacle next to Wellies.
