Hi all from a newbie to both the forum and the Med.
Having finally achieved the dream of cruising in turquoise sun drenched (not to mention non-tidal) scenic waters.
/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif but on a budget.
I now need a 14m x 5m berth preferably in the Palma bay area, and hopefully at a sensible cost!! (even if only for the winter 6 months from Oct '07) can anyone help please?
Thanks in advance and carry on the good work with the excellent forum.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for that, I am beginning to realise.
It appears that some away from Palma bay do have winter rates but probably not the ones you would choose and I believe security is better at some than others!!
All the ones I have approached so far say come back in two weeks or so and they may have availability but no one would make me a firm offer. I have now had to come back to the UK and so will need to go out again to move her but I would just like something firm to plan with.

Cheers Richard,
We can unfortunately only visit her from time to time from the UK and I would worry too much, as I am sure my insurers might over the winter.
Thanks again for the suggestion though.
p.s. Did you used to be involved in boat transport by any chance?

I kind of meant it as a cheap option while you were sorting something more permanent for the winter, but I take your point if it went into the windy winter.

Never involved in boat transport, other than now, of my own.

Alcudia will have winter berths - the problem there is no berths generally june to september, but after that there is always spare berths.

I have sent you a PM (The red flag flashing next to your login name) with the email address of the guy that looks after teh berths. Its a secure marina, well looked after.

Thanks

Martyn

GarethTS, I can't help directly but I am based in Palma. Getting a berth for the winter months is going to be a bit easier than the summer months but you will have to be lucky to find one all the same and there are no 'budget' berths in the Balearics. These are the marinas in Palma Bay with 15m+ berths

Club de Mar
Real Club Nautico
Pier 49
Marina Port de Majorca
Puerto Portals
Club Nautico s'Arenal

Google them to find contact nos. It's best to visit in person but you can try phoning on the off chance

Further afield there is Cala d'Or and Puerto Adriano which you could also try

Thanks for your reply Mike, I am begining to realise that a berth in Palma Bay is not that straightforward. I also appreciate that "budget" berths perhaps only exist under private illicit arrangements or in undesirable marina's.
I actually need a winter, or ideally longer berth for my boat that measures 13.8m x 4.4m. Not a berth for an 18m boat till Feb or a 12mth 14m RCN berth that requires me to join the Club at 8,000 Euro extra!
Tell me, you missed out Ca'n Pastilla, any reason?
Anyway thanks again, if I learn anything of advantage I will update the Forum.

Yup, I forgot Ca'n Pastilla. I don't know the Club Maritimo there but I believe the berths are all for relatively small boats and it is situated right next to Palma airport's main runway. Worth a try though
There are also marinas at Rapita and S'Estanyol further east of Palma Bay which do have larger berths and are also worth contacting
