Maldon Yacht club

According to published Council minutes, they've extended the lease to the Yacht Club, and are in discussions with them about the future. However, this doesn't seem to appear on the petition website or on the Yacht Club's website. I feel that this story is a bit one-sided.

I have two opposing views on this matter. First as a landlord I would say that MYC agreed and signed a lease for 46 years, so why are they complaining because their agreed lease has come to an end, and their Landlords want their site back. As a Yachtsman I am sorry to see a club lose their club premises

It's not very compassionate to say that they could go elsewhere.
People like Maldon Yacht Club.
The like the location, the friendliness, the history, the community spirit and the feeling of being in a maritime town.
Blackwater Sailing Club is a great club, but it's differnt to Maldon YC and they may not want to have another club parachuted onto them.

It is not a matter of compasion and people liking Maldon Yacht Club etc. but what MYC agreed in a lease. MYC signed a lease for 46 years, and now that 46 years has passed, for some reason Maldon Council want their site back

Which sounds like a legalistic, rather than a compassionate, approach.

So, yes, to me, it IS indeed a matter of compassion (or the lack thereof).

It is a legalistic matter, and I was telling it how it is, and not dreaming about what we would like.

My response, may seem as if I have no compassion, which is not the case, but this is a legal matter and must be addressed in a realistic manner and not some emotional wish.

If I were a member of MYC I would approach the MDC Councillors and ask if the Councils proposed use of this site was really better than having MYC there, and also see if some deal could be agreed. Perhaps MDC may have another sit they could offer, or use themselves for their proposed use of this site .... I see there was a proposal to move to Hall Lane in Heybridge in 1999, perhaps something could be arranged there

But the Council has been compassionate; they've given an extension on the lease so that the club can make other arrangements. I imagine the Council might also be willing to help find somewhere. The area is due for redevelopment, so the club can't stay where it is.

Depends what you think compassion is, perhaps.

(but, agreed: not an ideal discussion for this most civilised of fora.)

David .... I was not, in any way, meaning to suggest that you lack compassion.

Apologies if it sounded that I was.

PS You've certainly put your finger on the crux of the matter : ie is the proposed use of the site better than having MYC on it? I have my own views on that (but then I seem to disagree with many of our Councils' decisions right now!).

I understand that it is/was the councils intension to put chalets on the site. If that is so, it would seem a retrograde step, but then I am biased, I am a yachtsman
 
When I had some involvement them, MDC weere proposing to allocate land for a new hotel as part of the Local Plan. Nothing wrong with that until one realised they happened to own the land they were allocating for the only hotel site in town.

Said everything one needed know.
