Afternoon folks,

As far as I know it's the Maldon Regatta on Saturday and was gonna take the boat down there. No doubt it's gonna be pretty busy but is there anywhere I can moor, anchor, sit on mud (delete where appropriate) for the day?

I'm guessing the Quay visitors pontoon will be snapped up pretty sharpish so was going to take advantage of my bilgies and 2 1/2 ft draft.
 
I went for a sail up the Blackwater a couple of years ago not realising it was Maldon Regatta - round by Millbeach/Heybridge I encountered about 100 boats coming the other way - dinghies, cruisers, barges :eek: They missed me :D
 
Well the master plan (ish!) is to go down there before the fun begins so i'm not fighting the masses coming towards me :)

But where to moor that doesn't involve blocking the Blackwater navigation, is the question of the day. :)

There used to be moorings just downstream of Maldon Yacht Club towards Northey Island causeway, some belonging to the club and others used by old gaffers, etc. Assuming they are still there then they should be a convienent place to stop as I have used them in the past for similar purposes.
 
Pick up any swing mooring opp Millbeach pub.
My club ( Millbeach Marine) are having a meet up at Bradwell Marina over weekend , so plenty of vacant bouys.
If not sure pick up my bouy "CZ 27" opp Millbeach caravan site.

Depends if you want to go ashore or not.

There are moorings at the end of the promenade (by the statue of Byrhtnoth), some of which are always empty. There are others opposite them, which may have 1 free.

There is a scrubbing post frame a bit further up on the S. shore, which was erected by the Maldon Little Ship Club and you could tie up 'nose in' and get ashore 'feet dry' -ish

There used to be some moorings opposite Hythe Quay and you might anchor there, but the barges often stick their noses onto the mud there to pivot around & face downstream.

There are also several boatyards with finger berths upstream of Hythe Quay.

If you want to go ashore, it is possible to tie up alongside the barges for a while, but be aware that another barge may arrive & want to tie up & you'll have to move. I've done this at the Regattas I've attended, but I've stayed only for a couple of hours and quaffed my Adnams outside the MLSC, so I can keep a lookout & jump aboard to move.

Thank you Rudolph,

Well I tow the 'rubber duck' behind so can always motor/row across from wherever i'm moored and drag the dinghy up on somewhere.

Certainly more food for thought. :)

Have you been reading my book on boat control again? :D Sounds like my slightly unorthodox technique to sailing. :)
