Making an Orkney Fastliner 19..........sail?!!

Perhaps not literally!

But I have been thinking /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif..............

The combination of lots of power and also sail is attractive to me - just that to me something like the Macgregor 26 is butt ugly and for me is too much of a sailing boat / caravan (not meant as a criticism).

What I would like is an open boat / small cuddy around 19/22 foot that can sail around the bay safely - but can do 20/25 knots under power for passage making with a hull that I would be happy with in a bit of a blow.....hence my reference to an Orkney Fastliner 19.

Quite happy to sacrifice sailing ability for seaworthiness under power........with a lifting keel I reckon something like the Fastliner could be made to sail well enough for going around the bay, even if not for sailing cross channel or in very light airs.

I guess I am thinking more something like a Hawk 20.......that could do 20/25 knots.........somehow I suspect no one makes one.........maybe not actually feasible?.....unless anyone knows different?

I think that is a "traditional Moldavian lobster potter" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif........somehow I cannot see it making 20/25 knots /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif .......so I am not buying it /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Looks like a lot of thought and effort has gone into the design and build of the hull - which to my eyes is very pretty - makes me suspect the cabin is the work of a seperate "designer" (I use this word loosely!).

Given that you say that the hull is aluminium and others have said that it is nigh on impossible to acheive that hull shape, at least commercially, makes me thinks it is a one off special - possibly from someone with access to facilities in the workplace........maybe military?? (here or abroad!).

It's not blue either, so it's probably isn't aluminium.

We're kinda on the wrong thread here, but while trawling the web for "explosively formed" aluminium boats I saw plenty of white alu..(gods I'm fed up typing Aluminium!) Yank boats (none had been exploded though!)
