Has anybody had to make a claim for accidental damage before? Just weighing up the pros and cons as to whether I claim (excess is 200 quid) or whether I foot the bill (1500+ quid estimate). I am unsure of longer term consequences. Does it work a similar way to car insurance?

I pay a modest sum for my Fairline through what seems to be one of the forums highly regarded brokers.

All because of a stupid pontoon :disgust: lol (or a stupid driver)!

Make the claim - assuming it is covered in the policy. Unlikely to have any effect on future premiums or your ability to get cover. Very different from car insurance.

+1 for this advice.
I had a recent accident which was estimated and accepted by my insurance company. As the explanation was accepted and the estimate was around £2000, approval was given without the need of a surveyors report. In addition to this, additional work was found to be necessary which resulted in the total claim increasing by about 50%. I thought my premiums would soar because of this but the renewal invitation has just arrived showing an increase in premium of just £40.
