Hello-am renovating a steel hull Smuggler 25, now known as a Tradewind 25 and wish to make some elegant fixing for two drying out poles
The hawser hole shown here in this drawing is much further aft than mine
Many years ago I purchased a Trintella 29 that was spending the winter on a drying mooring with the mast down and a pair of oak legs keeping her upright at low water. I continued to use the legs, plus other supports when laying up ashore.
A heavy ply reinforcing plate was bonded inside the fibreglass hull to take the thrust of the legs up to the gunwhale. The legs were shaped to the curve of the hull and held in place by a single bolt through legs, hull and reinforcing plate, plus guys from base of leg to bow and stern mooring cleats. When sailing I plugged the holes with champagne corks. The next owner plugged them with a soft filler so they did not show at all, but could still be poked out and used if needed. Can't get more ellegant than that.
