We had our first extended stay of the year on the boat last week and had a great time cruising the East Coast of Majorca. Took a few piccies along the way and I thought I would share a few with you lot.

No stirring tales of derring do I'm afraid just a very enjoyable, relaxing & troublefree few days. So here goes

Thorough passage planning is key to every successful voyage..............

First night Porto Cristo. Lovely marina, but resort not brilliant

Then headed off for Cala D'or. Excellent place, but a bit pricey

Stayed two nights. Busy first night but Billy no mates on second night

Leaving Cala D'Or.

Thanks for that. Lovely pics. It helps us UK-bound peeps dream on a little more /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

We would love to do some med cruising but stuck here in Plymouth at the mo... mind you, if we are stuck in the UK then Plymouth is a good place to get stuck /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Just a quick question regarding the way you were berthed... I know that this is the standard way of berthing on the continent but with just the anchor holding the bow don't things move around a lot if it blows up? Is it really secure for all weathers?

Hi Mike

It really does look like it has just been stuck on backwards doesn't it. Surely they could have done something a little more stylish.

Hi Martyn
Doing the tourist bit last week, I was on holiday in Cala D'or but not with my boat. I may have seen you as we spent most of the time round the marina. Also went to Porto Christo after seeing Caves of Drach. They are something else! Did you see the super yacht, Tigre D'or, anchored in Porto Petro?

Hi

Its not actually our anchor line its a line or chain that is weighted by a concrete block to the seabed and that is picked up using a smaller leading line attached to the pontoon, although in other areas of the Med the anchor is used I believe.

This method of stern to mooring generally works pretty well as most Med marinas are pretty full and you are effectively wedged in between two other boats and therefore sheltered. The only time it can be a problem is when there are no adjacent boats (as in my Billy no mates picture above) and high winds. Then the boat can rock from side to side with the danger of catching the corners of the bathing platform. The answer is to have the boat moored away from the pontoon (hence the need for a passarelle) and big fenders /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

On my home berth in Alcudia I have double lines with one each attached to port & starboard bow cleats. The visitors moorings in Porto Cristo and Cala D'or had single lines only which is a bit rockier.

But it does generally work OK

Didn't get down to Porto Pedro this visit, we are saving it for another time but I have been told its really lovely.

Didn't do the Caves of Drach either. SWMBO went many years ago and thought they were boring "just caves" so we took the more interesting option of clothes and perfume shops /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I obviously need a Forum Burgee to identify me to other forumites

What with the marriage and more work than I can cover, I doubt it, hope to do one run to Ibiza, but that's in doubt as well. Pauline and Mr. B are in the same boat, what with a very full social calender! When you coming to Barca, been saving some beer for you! Better hurry or Mr. B will drink it, again!

Sadly I don't think we will hit Barca this year, don't have any visits long enough - its a bugger when the real world gets in the way of boating isn't it /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Nice pics, Martyn. Just come back from Majorca myself having moved the boat back to Palma from Alcudia with some mates. We left Alcudia around last Friday lunchtime. I guess we must have gone by the time you got back?
Great weather and calm seas. Even saw dolphins off Dragonera
