We have a programme of major works planned for the boat, total spend will I guess be about 10 k Euro. We are presently in Greece but thinking about moving over to Turkey at the begining of next season for a year or two. The hourly rate we have been quoted in Greece is 38 Euro that and the high VAT rate is making me think it might be better to delay the works until next winter when we will be in Turkey.

Any thoughts.

My experience is that the rate is not as important as the knowledge and skill of the technician. I would rather pay 100 per hour for a person who provides a solution that works than 38 an hour for a solution that leaves me dissatisfied. Very often the case when dealing with marine problems!!

Yes, and I have heard there are some highly skilled workers on the Turkish side, can anyone make any recommendations, a yard with a multi skilled workforce.

Here in Marmaris I would say that you need good advice as who to use and, in general, it is usually an outside contractor.
What sort of refit are you doing?
Wood, steel, aluminium or GRP ?
Engineering work ?
It is normal to price the job rather than give an open ended
quote based on houly rate but in real terms cheaper than Greece.
e.g. As a classic yacht varnisher I look to make €15 per hour
but I am always on the crew list and pay no tax.
Cheers,
Chris

Here in Bodrum (Yalikavak) I was speaking to one of the yacht techy guys earlier this season. He said that most of the teak decking people that they regularly use were booked up a year in advance. So if it is teak work you are looking for then best to check in advance for a slot.
