After years of neglect the Medway is finally getting the infrastructure it desperately needed to bring the navigation up to the standards long enjoyed by its big brother a few miles to the north.
Hampstead Lock just outside the village of Yalding is being totally rebuilt.

Probably the most awkward to operate lock out of the whole bunch it is having a set of steps cut into the wall to allow easy access to the chamber.
Scale of work best seen in this photograph..

Virtually all locks know have some decent access/mooring while waiting to transit locks.

Am sure all Medway users would like to thank everyone for working so hard and paying their taxes to make this all possible.

Provides a nice muted backdrop to all the old sofas, dead sheep etc,bit thicker and you could walk on it.......... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
