Majoni/Menorquin boats

We're thinking of buying a second hand Majoni or Menorquin. Will be based in Port de la Selva.
Does anyone have experience of these boats or even the Port?
We've noticed there are a number of boats 20 years or so old. What is the lifetime expectancy of such vessels?
Is there a quality difference between the two manufacturers?

There were quite a lot of Menorquin boats in our Marina at Alcudia - Handsome looking boats, passed a few in the water as well, and they look pretty good at sea. The wood they use and the style and finish certainly makes is stand out. Cant remember seeing any Majoni boats though, or they didnt catch my eye.

It's not obvious unless you know the difference which is which, but I'm no expert yet either ! Yes they are pretty -good classic looking boats. Most of the boats we've looked at are fibre glass but and that's where we need advice.

Menorquin have an extensive website.

Unlikely you will find much experience here as I doubt many have been sold in the UK.

As regards life expectancy, they will all be less than 30 years old which in terms of GRP is relatively young. Suspect that all the usual issues of GRP craft will be relevant. The machinery on older boats may well be past their best. Suggest you just look at a few to get a general impression and then have a survey on the one that you think you might want to buy.

heard quite a few owners appreicate the looks and comfort of the Menorquins
the problem that all of them seem to have is the wet ride they give upwind, in Italy where they have sold well due to the competitive price and classic looks, owners are adding a spray rail forward to minimise the wash

what I like about them is the cruising speed of 16 knots with not much consumption, which is IMO a good speed and generally a comfort speed from them

We do our boating in the Balearics and see plenty of Menorquins out and about. I do admit that their traditional look is quite attractive but whenever I've observed them at sea, they seem quite slow and, as poweryacht has already stated, seem to throw up a lot of spray. As you've probably already seen, they do have a squared off hull at the stern which IMHO looks odd under the curved transom and that curved transom also reduces cockpit space. I was moored next to a Menorquin 160 in L'Estartit last week and, whilst it looked fab, I also noted that the upper saloon, more a pilot house really, was tiny for it's length and the flybridge was miniscule
If you like it's trad looks, that's fine but IMHO, it does'nt offer the same kind of space as a conventionally shaped planing boat and it certainly won't be as fast
