Majestic Gentleman\'s Yacht in the Solent

Spotted yesterday while out with Argonautical on Pipedream.
Very beautiful craft, punching out of the Solent through the forts at Pompy at a very respectable speed - we had to do 28knts to catch up and pas, so I guess she was doing about 20!

Beautiful boat indeed.
Btw, the 13/14.6 kts cruise/max shown in the specs sounds reasonable.
I was astonished by Jezbanks' estimation of 20kts...

Re: Majestic Gentleman\'s Yacht in the Solent

Alright, so it was a guess. She did seem to be cracking on and it took us a fair bit of time to catch up /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Still, obviously my speed estimation skills are rubbish /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Majestic Gentleman\'s Yacht in the Solent

Wonderful ship isn't she? I was coming back from Yarmouth to Poole on Wednesday (Yes, I know but it was my birthday) and we passed her at Hurst as she came into the Solent. Graceful and supremely stately; thank goodness there are still people who want to - and can - keep such a lovely lady afloat and working.

Re: Majestic Gentleman\'s Yacht in the Solent

I thought you must be a bit optimistic with 20 knots, I saw her go past from thre rib I was driving.

website confirms 12 know cruising, a bit more flat out.

I can imagine Hercules Poirot pacing the decks.

Edited - it seems I'm as crap at posting quickly as Jez at estimating speed!

Re: Majestic Gentleman\'s Yacht in the Solent

Jez, obviously Pipedreams just a 'Gutless Wonder'. We passed her at 25 knots, cut across the front of her at about 25 knots, we headed towards her at 25 knots trying ti head her off, when running alogside her, we were doing 25 knots we passed her fairly quickly though, but I would say it was travelling at more than 13- 15 knots however. We all thought it was a 'proper yacht', but a bit ugly with those mahoosive chimney type things going on up top!!!

Who owns her???

Anyone, anyone, anyone?

Jas.

P.S. I recon its the one from 'Chitty Bang Bang' the one Baron Bomburst had ???? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: Majestic Gentleman\'s Yacht in the Solent

Pipedream is anything but gutless - or it certainly seemed that way.

Maybe that was just the driver though /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Majestic Gentleman\'s Yacht in the Solent

"Those mahoosive chimney type things going on up top" are a legacy from the days when she was steam powered - I understand that they now artfully conceal the sat com domes....

She is owned by the Getty family in the USA.
(Ooops, Ben beat me to it)

I will endorse the comment above re how she is simply timeless - she will always be beautiful and stylish, trendy even, unlike many of these 'modern' day motor vessels - eg, I am thinking of the styling popular in the late 70's and early 80's - a bit like cars, their age is instantly identifiable by their style.

Re: Majestic Gentleman\'s Yacht in the Solent

Yes beautiful. Puts many of the big plastic 5h1t heaps in their place! You can't beat pure elegance and class. This is what I call a true super yacht obviously owned by somebody with a discerning eye for beauty.

Re: Majestic Gentleman\'s Yacht in the Solent

would running something like that be any more expensive than running a 25-mtr sunseeker etc.
