Would be grateful for recommendations for following works on my steel cruiser:

full service of diesel engine (perkins) air filters, generator etc

and separately for later in the year -

hull blasting and repaint and anti foul

and any guides to fair prices to expect (hourly rates etc.)

Many thanks <span style="color:blue"> </span>

this is worrying
If you had asked how to service the engine yourself you would have 25 answers by now ... but finding a good marine engineer seems to be a question with a more elusive answer.
For a marine engineer I think you can expect about £50+ an hour. The standard charges I have seen for servicing (eg £500) engines are ridiculous when you consider what little there is to do on a diesel engine.
As far as anti-fouling some boatywards do a deal when they are slack. If you mean a pressure wash and anti foul most will do that. If you mean 'blasting' to take all old paint off then I am not sure where that can be done. I think Shepperton Marina do that (or maybe they bring in an outside agency - I'm not sure)

oh yes ... and make sure you are there when the boat is craned out of/into the water.
It is rare, but not unknown for boats to be dropped .. like one great big bang I heard just a couple of weeks back.

Thanks for the advice. About what I thought. Unfortunately the hull does need shot blasting have tried one yard left messages, e-mailed but can I get a retunred call ...... seems they just don't want the work. On the engine front, I did manage petrol engines about thirty years ago, but servicing a diesel engine for what would be first time is unfortunately just too daunting. Was the terrific crash anywhere near that I should worry about (not) using? Thought I would watch the crane out and stand with all fingers crossed!

I'd struggle to think of a marine engineer let alone recommend one, however Lindon Lewis Marine at Shepperton's advertised rates always look reasonable, i'd give them a go. But to be honest servicing a diesel is easy, just change the oil and fuel filters, even the bleeding is easy I just fill the filter with fuel and start the engine, never had to bleed one yet.

I live in Molesey and have had work donw by Lindon Lewis Marine at Shepperton although they can be expensive when compared to prices charged on the coast (Brighton/Solent)
