I'm considering doing a root and branch overhall of my boat this Winter. Electrical re-wire including mast and mast fittings.
I also plan to replace some thru hull fittings and improve the draining of the cockpit, at least thats the plan and hopefully make it a safer more seaworthy boat. Would be interested in hearing of any publications that might assist to this end.

Do as much yourself as you can. The cost of 'boat' tradesmen is prohibitive.

I have Nigel Calders book readily available.

Yep, Nigel Calder here too. It's a pricy book, but you get over 800 pages for your money.

I also have a book called 'Shipshape. The art of sailbat maintenance' by Ferenc Mate. It's been very useful, and nearly 400 pages of information.

Nigel Calder is a great reference but I think you'll find that "This old Boat" by Don Casey is a good read and covers all the techniques that you'll likely to use in a very practical way.

Does the Nigel Calder book cover basics of hull maintenance etc or is it purely mechanical and electrical?

Rummage through second hand racks for Mike Saunders's "Yacht Joinery and Fitting" ISBN 0-370-30253-2 and "Glassfibre Boat Manual" edited by Bo Streiffert ISBN 0-356-12357-x

I got mine from an Oxfam shop in the late 80's. Both very good and no less relevant today than they were when written.
