Been having more difficulty in raising main since mast refurbished. Wondering if halyards got twisted in refitting rollers at top of mast.

is there an easy way to check?

One simple way is to hold both ends in your hands, one end in each hand with the line taut. Make sure it goes round nothing else, eg cleats. Then pull smoothly so that pulling down your left hand lifts up your right hand. Repeat several times.

If you feel no difference then it's probably ok. If you feel it juddering then it is catching on something.

Slacken one right off and see if that makes any difference. If not then that's not the problem.

Have the slides got dirty? Try squirting Sailcote or similar dry spray on the sail slides and in the track as far as you can reach.

Are the sheaves in the system turning OK or are you dragging the rope round a siezed or knackered sheave.

Sheaves were replaced in mast overhaul that why I am wondering if the halyards got crossed during replacement.

I had a problem raising my main a few years ago. It went up okay until the final 5 or 6 feet, then it became hard, even with a winch it was an effort to get it to the top.
A quick look with the binos to the top of the mast showed that the topping lift had crossed over the back of the main halyard.
