Hip Hip Hurray ......The mini forest growing out of the stone wall on the "sheds" side of the river has been cut back, thus enabling the more adventurous and/or skilled of us to moor on the north and more peaceful bank, less blimming road noise. Also more water on that side.
Well done EA.

What !!
Rumours that after the major and lengthy reconstruction of the promenade on the south side opposite The House of Frazer and the removal of some faux bollards and other junk, that not all is well.

The main complaint from boat users always was......................

A. Depth of water and junk on the bottom

and

B. Lack of anything sensible to tie up to.
The good thing is that the area looks so much better, however it appears that only a few token and pathetically small rings have been installed over a very short section on the moorings.
For Gawds sake MBC.

Pleeeasse tell me its not true....

Re: Maidstone Town Centre................

Stayed overnight on the new moorings with four other boats.
The new stainless mooring rings are installed along half the regenerated length and are of decent size.
About six feet of water virtually up to the stone wall.

Now ....If only they could do something about the road noise.

during the 25 mile trip there and back....we had
a mysterious steering malfunction.
a failed impellor
a well fried invertor
and a member of one of the crews enjoyed an late season dip. !
Not all on the same boat ..

And the groundings, don't forget the groundings!

Thoroughly good weekend though, I really do like that run up to Maidstone. Possibly because it's cheap, and a bit challenging!

Couple more snaps:

Re: Maidstone Town Centre................

We might have left tad early. That tide was well late.
It was on time the following day tho
As yer pic shows barely made it under bridge when the boats in front eventually went under :)

.. as for that first photo of yours
...a Rose between two Thorns perhaps ?....

always pleasure to show the Thames boyes, who by now are all snuggled up with some massive shorepower cabling in order to keep the multitude of heating/drying and temperature sensing devices powered up, awaiting for August 2018 to roll around .
Controlled remotely via web of course, the marina carpark gets very muddy during the winter. :):):)

A Blatant Advert....

We are always looking for active boaters to join RCC,we usually have something boaty going on all year round, not just the months with a "U" as second letter in the name.
As you know the Medway at Rochester is an ideal base for both up river and salt water trips. Next planned adventure is back up to your neck of the woods for our " Xmas" weekend do and then The Icebreaker, a run down to Sheerness (if the Eberspacher works that long). on NYD 2018 .
Stew dumplings and refreshment in the club after.
This year saw boats visiting Holland and The Solent, plus all the usual inshore stuff such as Ramsgate, the East Coast and closer to home Conyer and the Ye Thames. Only managed one London marina this year. St Kats.
Club can also offer a set of drying blocks, handy for those unplanned outdrive mishaps, at a fraction of a lift out cost.
You also can take advantage of some free nights mooring at the club.
For the significant other, for whom boating is probably like watching paint dry while standing in a cold shower tearing up £50.00 pound notes, ,we can offer a busy social calendar.
a young couple in the sports boat came up with us, their first time upriver
Several members are also involved with EFCC and the gang of pensioners up at Yalding.
Go on, you know you want to :).

What are you on about ? We were out yesterday for a couple of hours - engine started just fine even though shore power has hardly been connected all season except on the odd night we've slept on board in the marina and then only for hot water.
That solar panel I installed a coupe of seasons ago really is the dogs wotsits. No mud in the carpark either - hasn't even snowed up in these 'northern' climes yet.
Loads of us out this coming weekend for the Commodes sail past which will be led by a bijou Hardy - no bally tip toeing around "en pointe" and an arabesque will do if one of the egg whisks fails cos some eejit let the "derriere' get a bit too close to the bankside.

This shaft drive boat is spending a lot of time out of the water :)

.Grrrr......and its probably going to need anti-fouling if the previous owner did in fact cover the Coppercoat with ordinary antifoul last season !
Boat is covered with weed and other muck this year, perhaps the worst have seen for ages and we have done a good 70 hours since launch in June, some of it in freshwater ..
