Magnetronic DCC 4000 battery management info thingy

I have one of these, probably 1989 vintage. It has always been on the boat whilst we have owned it at least.

I can't seem to re programme after changing the batteries. I now have 400 AH on domestic and 100 AH for the engine start. In theory l should be able to set the unit to know this but on pressing the two buttons nothing seems to happen. Unfortunately the only book onboard is in German! (and it doesn't seem to cover a lot).
Anyone used one of these things and know how they work?
