Magma BBQ run on Camping gaz?

Just been given one of these bbq's that was bought in America so has their valve.

Would like to run it from a 904 Camping Gaz bottle.

Have ordered a regulator and some hp hose for the 904.

Where I'm struggling is choosing the correct Magma valve.

Looking at old posts seems it has been done but no mention of any Magma part numbers.

The Magma site lists two. A10-220 & A10-230.

Amazon also lists two, A10-220CE & A10-223CE

The old posts mention it does work on Camping Gaz, I think may be a mixture of Propane and butane?

Can anyone help?

It likes propane I believe and some ov them come equiped to take a pint sized screw on bottle and the thread used to be the same as the mini welding bottles in B and Q and plumbers stores.

Check out West marine web site and Steveston Marine. the Vancouver ones definitely have what you want re adaptors on the shelf as saw them last week.
 
Force4 seem to have a selection of Magma BBQs and associated bits and pieces on their website
However they appear to use Camping Gaz CV470 Cartridges although there is also a control valve for connection to the boat's gas installation. That would presumably allow easy connection to a 904 bottle via a camping gas regulator. A camping gas regulator will screw directly on to the 904 and 907 cylinders

Is there any advantage in using a 904 cylinder over a CV470 cartridge?
904 cylinders are not all that common.

I have bought 2 of these so far (1 for my own and 1 for a mate's stink boat after using mine so often) and ran the second one from a 907 bottle that was part of the existing gas system. It simply used a connection on the bottom that allowed you to connect a low pressure gas hose by replacing the venturi tube. If you let me know what model it is I can get in touch with the distributor tomorrow and get you a part number :)

These usually come with the regulator/ control valve as a unit. If you remove the control valve/regulator it has to be replaced with something else.

Seems Force 4 can help as they sell the control valve which has a hose connection.

This can be hosed to the regulator on a Gaz bottle.

I am not sure it a hose fits on to it or whether you will need a hose tail /Fulham nozzle in addition


Connect that to a standard camping gas regulator/ shutoff valve fitted directly on to the 904 gas cylinder

You need 1/8" NPT fittings

VicS is right.

I was given a US model Magma kettle which was made to connect directly to a tiny disposable LPG bottle, which is quite unobtainable here. I had the most awful job connecting it to the boat's normal system instead, but did succeed eventually. Now I have it, it's a great piece of kit.

First item required is the LPG nozzle as Vic showed. I got this from the states via a friend living there, but it is available in the UK, I believe from Force 4. Magma part no is A10-220. It has a male connector at the bottom, with a 1/8" NPT thread. To find this out I had to measure the thread diameter and tpi very carefully with a micrometer and then look it up - the info isn't readily available (or I didn't find it).

Thus one needs a 1/8" NPT female to hose-tail connector. This is a b^&&er to source here, but I did find one eventually (can't remember who from, not the usual ASAP of similar supplier; I think it was from a car race-tuning company). ASAP do sell 1/8" NPT male to 5/16" hose-tail connectors, but then you'd need a 1/8" NPT barrel as well.

This then connects to a low pressure gas hose, which goes back to the regulator on the butane bottle. I used the normal 5/16" ID orange hose.

I wish I had seen it earlier, perhaps we could have saved you some effort.
I am with Magma Products.
The regulator you require depends upon the model grill you have.
The grill can definetly be used with the Camping Gaz larger cylinders when properly regulated and with the proper low pressure valve.
