First off this isn't a rant nor is it anything against MB&Y or Time Inc. as I know Magazines Direct are only their distributors. The magazine is great.
My subscription ended this month and was due to be renewed on the 14th of this month but I cancelled it on the 7th due to no time to read them and nothing else, it's a time of year thing. I fully intended to re-subscribe in a few months time when things calm down for me. (I have about 40 Auto Italia magazines still in their delivery bags still to read)
However, I noticed today that Magazines Direct had charged me for the next 6 months even though I had cancelled! So quick call to them to sort it out but it ended up a total joke. The girl I was talking to told me I was locked into the subscription because I didn't cancel in time before the new subscription started, but I did and gave her the actual dates. She then said I had received more magazines than I should have so I was still locked in....I hadn't, I had only received 5 issues when I unsubscribed. This cat and mouse went on for ages with her trying her hardest to get out of refunding me but in the end conceded it was a mistake and I would be refunded in 10-12 working days!! Now that is ridiculous in this day and age, even a cheque clears in 24 hours FFS!
After getting off the phone with her I noticed the small print on the renewal notice stating "If an error is made in the payment of your Direct Debit by Magazines Direct or your bank or building society, you are entitled to a full and immediate refund" So tomorrow I will make a call to my bank and get an indemnity claim on a refund.
So, If you ever decide to cancel your subscription, cancel the Direct Debit with your bank at the same time to save yourself loads of hassle. :encouragement:
