There has been an uprising in Muros today with all visiting boats leaving to anchor outside the marina.

The reason is that they have decided to charge stupid amounts from yesterday even though there is no electricity, water, showers, toilets, wifi. The only thing they do have are pontoons.

The price for a boat of between 12 and 14m is about 30 euros.

Today is also the festival of boats in the town but not only have they lost marina money, they have also lost money in the town that would have been spent in the festival.

The anchorage is pretty full at the moment though.

There is no marina office and no contact numbers so until the farce that is Muros is sorted out I suggest you stay away.

Suggest you throw a tantrum for a couple of weeks and then everything will probably back to normal.

when you said there had been an "uprising", my thoughts immediately went to a seiche !

What are the structures out in Muros bay, please ?

I remember an excellent tapas meal in a little place in the back streets. Muros was the only stop we made on a trip to Gibraltar.

Just don't try and anchor on the slope. It's made of cinders, go for the deep water and lots of chain.

Can't you go to somewhere like Ribeira instead ? (excuse spelling)

We went in there originally because it was widely known to be free and a town worth visiting.

I just wanted others to be aware so they don't get charged 30 euros for a pontoon and nothing else.

Manager would not show his face but just kept threatening to call the Police.

We have gone into Portosin instead for fuel and water. Good wi fi, excellent staff and good facilities.

Tomorrow we will go somewhere else and find somewhere to anchor.

Update on Muros

We've been anchored on the other side of the bay for a few days and decided to check out the marina before staying there.

Just into low season as it's Sept. and they quoted around 22 Euro per day. It was actually 25 Euro when we arrived as we are over 12m. However, they put us down as 12m and looks as if we'll pay the rate they quoted.

All seems fine now as we have power, showers, water and Wifi. Washing machine was only 3 Eur per wash (includes detergent & conditioner). We paid for washes but machine is quite small and so we needed an extra wash.

Staff are friendly, speak english and are keeping the place very clean in spite of gulls trying to mess it up. Small Gadis supermarket nearby so convenient for shopping as well.

The marina seems well run and reasonble value now. I think that the price for 12m jumps from 22 to 30 Eur in high season.

No problem.

I meant to add that there are only 2 showers and 1 room with a wc & shower so might be a problem if it gets busy. We are the only visiting boat here so not exactly a queue for the showers. Hopefully, they'll add more for next season.

WiFi signal is too weak to use with a laptop's built-in unit but OK with our Alfa USB boosters. However, that's common in many places so not unique to Muros.

The town is very nice and we are enjoying a short stay before moving on.

Attached picture shows how busy the marina is just now (spot the yacht).

Muros Marina (Muport) charged us €30 today for 12m (high season) and now has electricity and water on pontoons (and nylon strings to keep the gulls off) as well as showers, toilets, washer/dryer and wifi (probably will need booster antenna on pontoons) as well as a friendly and helpful chap named Pedro who speaks good English.

The anchorage at Abelleira, 1.5 miles from Muros (wiggle your way through the mussel rafts) is very nice and has excellent shelter in NW to NE. However we've tried anchoring on the northern bit of Muros and found very poor holding and gave up after five attempts and went into the marina.

Funny that ... I am in the Northern bit of the bay and a anchor bit first time , might be snagged :) been here for 3 days ...

Saw you there, you were just coming back by dinghy while we were struggling between you and a Belgian boat. Well, the pilot did warn about "variable holding" :nonchalance: We spent the two nights before at Abelleira which had great holding in sand and shells. We're heading to Ria Arousa later today - say hi if you see us again.
