No real big news but was one of my goals. Bit choppy out there in the 17' bowrider but took on no water, hell of a bumpy ride heading back against the wind, noticed a lot of the bigger boats were only going about 10 knotts, not sure if that was fuel saving or the bumpy ride.

:D

a good learning experience, and another goal to tick off. Well done. What's the next stop ?

Want to go to leap beach and venture around the IOW i bit to see if there are any nice beaches within reach:) I have been pushing the boat more and more when im out to see what it and i can take, and its a lot more capable than some of the views i have read, i think ill lose my nerve before the baot does:eek: ....not a bad way to be me thinks.

Well done.

I was wondering what safety measures you take. Do you ALWAYS wear a lifejacket . Do you carry a handheld VHFradio ( and make sure it is fully charged before you set off) ? Flares ? Are you accompanied by friends in a second boat ?

No doubt there are lots of other measures i have overlooked.

I amnot sure where you are based but when i started boating in 2005 i took my 18 ft bowrider from Poole to Gosport, so hows about you aiming for Poole.

Good luck.

Decades on, my kids still talk about the time I tried to drown then in 18ft !
It all starts somewhere!

Almost certainly the bouncing & slapping, most people & especially SWMBOs dislike & fear the pounding & noise. Why be stressed, going slower simply extends the time spent boating.

Ahh But
Mr Rushie Sir
Extending the time spent boating, when yer bow rider is bangin about is not good!
Going slowly is ok in a displacement vessel ( cos yer av to anyway) or banging a bit less in a Semi is ok too
Going slow-- coming back from Warpa's epic trip would be a pain in the rectum

Oh by the way
Forgot to tell you
Used 'Searush' for 'circuits an Bumps' last weekend;)
Was OK ---was the Advanced peeps
Not a lot of damage
Oh yeh -- we have some new hull cleaner stuff in stock
Really cleans rib an scuff marks off of boats like no other
I can let you have some 'Trade':D:D

Safety  I got two mobiles on different networks in waterproof containers:D I wear the life jacket when i see fit, passenders all the time. Someone is always briefed on the controls incase i go over, the rest of the gear is regular common sense stuff, i also have various apps that can pin point my position if i need help...oh and me flares :D

Ahh, well, att least that confirms the poor neglected girl is pretty well still afloat!

This weekend we are testing the new (to us) motorhome with a pair of G-kids. Should be fun in the rain, just bought SWMBO & me a set of Tayberry riding (& flashing) coats so we can walk round in our underwear & wellies (or crocs) regardless of the rain storms.

few more lessons learned today  When 2 tugs are pushing a ship into dock dont go near them in a small boat, the pic is after i had moved away, but it was like a whirlpool in there when i slowed to watch, had to plane to get out again!

Sea state from phone camera doesnt look to bad here

Was choppy though, but onwards we went.

On the turn around to Calshot the swell was hidious, 3-4 foot and lesson number 2 learned...with a swell that big DONT stop, as soon as i stopped and realised i had to open her right up to get back on top of the waves.

was a lot rougher than yesterday, so made a dash for hamble river and had a nosey at some of the lovely boats up there, got to the M27 bridge before heading back. Oh and even when entering the river i had to ignore the speed limit for a tad and add just a touch of throttle to keep the bow up.

Unfortunately as the good lady was hanging onto the grab rail while in the rough stuff i couldnt get any pics:mad:

Out of the river we came and it was much the same except the wind was almost with us heading to western shore, i had a great time at this point, knowing what the boat can take and playing with the throttle over the waves doing 30 mph. sea was still quit e choppy at western, so headed back up river to get ready to moor up.

Couple of what should be lovely boats being left to waste.

Your reply comes across as a bit flippant, perhaps unintentionally.

Any forumite will tell you that a VHF radio is of far more use than a mobile phone when at sea ; dont tell the RNLI that you only wear a life jacket only when you think fit.

You come across as an adventurous chap, well so am i . As i previously mentioned in 2005 i took my 18ft bowrider from Poole to Yarmouth, East Cowes, Haslar and back. So how about you doing the same in reverse and i will buy you dinner when you reach Poole.

He could follow me down tomorrow - I'm bringing a SeaRay 38 Sundancer with twin 8.1 petrols on shafts to the Sea Ray bash in Poole.

It's OK, you won't have to buy me dinner as well!!

F5-F7 in a little bowrider. I would not wish it on him .

I guess i owe you a dinner for last year.

I have been checking the weather. As long as we leave first thing it should not be too bad. Wind tomorrow is not really the issue as the wind over the last few days has been slight and from the north. OK, so we will be on springs, but if he was to tuck in behind me then the ride would be relatively flat and I would be inshore more to reduce tidal effect. Coming back on Sunday should be OK - wind with tide - makes no real odds to me.

My real problem is with the owners - they are elderly and used to boat on the St Lawrence! A very game couple, but!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't take dinner off you as it's paid for by Marina Marbella - but next time!!

Warpa, we launch from Calshot and started boating a couple of years back in pretty much the same boat as you and moved on in the same mindset to go for a cuddy (Fletcher 19GTSc) were great fun... we're down for the whole week, wc 6th Aug,, send us a pm if you're about and we'll meet up with a view to passing on some of my learnings.. an expert I'm certinly not but there'll be some advice there that'll useful to you no doubt..

regarding handling various wave heights and patterns, there's a good online read.. I'll se if I can find it
