Magnificent the arcipelago is unique. Amazing anchorages beautiful turquoise sea and fine sand! Can get very windy and bonifacio can be treacherous so be prudent. I was there in July some time ago and the marinas are very expensive and chokablok (I was on the Italian side) in Porto Massimo. After 15/8 a lot of boats leave. Just round the corner is Caprera which I think is now protected and then further on is Costa Smeralda, so more stinkpots and megayachts and a glass of mineral water is probably €10!

When are you going?

The west of Corsica is the best, same problem for marinas in July and especially Auguts so you'll anchor out "in rada" most of the time. S.Florent , Calvi, Girolatte (don't miss it) and then south to Sardinia. The NW of Corsica can be beaten by the Maestrale and you need good ground tackle if the wind gets up. The Eastern coast is very boring. It depends how much time yuo've got. Corsica is also very beautifull inland, mountainous with many rivers and streams so it's got a lot of vegetation. Sardinia is much dryer inland. Have fun.

Re: Maddalenas Sardegne

Extremely charming, compared to Western Isles with sun, tho' I'd compare it more to the Scilly. Lots of shallow water, rocks and transits.
Italian National Park.

Comprises 2 main, inhabited islands, Maddalena(with San Stefano US Navy base) and Caprera (with Garibaldi's 'retirement' home).

If the other 7 islands, all officially uninhabited, Santa Maria is my favourite.

Lots of settled weather anchorages, marinas at Maddalena town and Palau.

Not sophisticated (club Med and sailing school on Caprera) and a fair number of R&R places in Palau and Maddalena.

Best avoided from June to Sept, very crowded and the Ministerio del Ambiente levies €15 an night for anchoring.
