Anyone know where I can buy one of these Mace pepper sprays from for protection, other than going to the USA.May be on my way south at say France, or Spain? hope this is not a silly thing to ask, if so please ignore it. Cerro

As far as I am aware, Mace(pepper) sprays are illegal in the UK. I stand to be corrected though.

They are, but most aerosol cans are quite nasty if sprayed straight at someone. When I was in the USA some years ago I remember someone using a can of car spray paint very effectively on a would be mugger.

A small co2 fire extinguisher can be used in similar circs. Immediately incapacitating as it affects breathing and sight.

you can buy them online from the states
but i cannot see how mace is goign to help on aboat
you have either been boarded ( which in the areas this tends to happen means they are armed) or you are being mugged in which case they will have a knife and seeing you reach for mace may provoke a stabbing much better to push them down and run away.
the problem with buying on line is you cannot be sure you have not bought a can of water except testing it on yourself. this is reccomedned with a friend present in case you react badly.

Mace is illegal under the Firearms Act, as are tazers.
I understand that Royal Mail and Customs are very good at spotting packages from US with mace sprays in them, so it is not worthe even trying it.
Try this instead.

Quite correct Major.................. as a friend of mine found out when the Police turned up and informed him they were classed as firearms.
This was after his house had been invaded by 4 blokes armed with knifes to get the keys to his cars. He doesn't have any MACE now, but does have the biggest bloody Rottwieller I have ever seen!

Why is it that we Brits get our knickers in a twist over legalities? "Oh, it's illegal to buy it in the UK" or "It's classed as a firearm" etc. etc.
No wonder the EU love us so much! We don't just accept their crazy laws - we then hire "Blakey's" to go around checking that everyone else in the UK is obeying them!
Personally, I prefer the Louisville Slugger (which is probably illegal as well - but who cares?) Anyone who comes on my boat uninvited will be leaving one way or the other!

Buy a spear gun , totally legal in some countries,and you can catch dinner with it.But you dont need fire power anywhere in Europe.
