Hope to be towing our boat (19ft Dawncraft) to Windermere tommorow, Any advice on the best towing route from the M6.
Thought best route is to Newby Bridge then up to Ferry Nab, alternative is via Bowness but dont fancy going through the village or how about the B road from the A591 at Kendal via Crook, but there is a sign saying not suitable for long vehicles.Or the 5074 from A590 via Lyth?

OK,

I always towed over Crook up to a 22ft boat. Anything bigger I went through Bowness or via Newby bridge depending on time of day. If going over Crook make sure the trailer brakes are working and that the car has plenty of power (Diesel is great). The other issue with Crook is that if it is raining there are a couple of corners on hills where you have to accelerate hard, and that will cause wheel spins which gets hairy! If you know the crook road, have plenty of grunt in the car and have good brakes do Crook. If not go Bowness or Newby Bridge. If early morning (before 11am) or after 6pm I would do Bowness road. If in middle of the day would go newby bridge! Newby bridge is the longest but safest option. Crook will save you most time but may make your hair go grey!

Must have towed a boat to Windermere over 100 times....happy days they were!

Good luck

Paul
