M&S Deck Shoes

Yes I have a pair from M+S bought half a dozen years ago and looking exactly like those in your picture.
They are looking well past their best now and I think my wife has hidden them somewhere. But I had quite a few years very regular weekend use out of them - so they were good value for money.

I am on my third pair. They look like a deck shoe, are comfortable and have have a good grip. The only problem, which is big one for nautical wear, is that they are not waterproof and the leather takes on the consistency of soggy cardboard when it is wet. It is particulary bad on the topsides arount the toe box. I have tried all sorts of polish, including Grangers G Wax, and it still does not take long for them to get wet. Even walking down a damp uneven pavement the water works it way through the join between the upper and sole.

At £49.99 they are not cheap. For my next pair I will probably pay the extra £10 and get some Orca Bay Frips.

I have had many pairs of M&S deck shoes including, currently the exact pair in the link, all have been very comfortable summer leisure shoes that have lasted well, but totally agree with Dab, they don't deal with water well, they will leak dye onto your feet when wet.

They are listed as 'deck shoes', and as such are not made/ suitable for on shore walking etc!

If you look up the specific Yachty Deck Shoes available, they are also not suitable for general walking on shore; not enough heel/ foot support etc!

Deck shoes are for just that; going around a 'deck' with very short walks around 'decks' and lots of sitting down in cockpit.

Although now its also a 'style' of shoe.

Thank you Gents for your views, the reason I posed the question in the first place, was the fact my current deck shoes "newness" has worn off, having bought them some 7/8 years back in the land of the Kermits for around 10 euros if memory serves. so looking to replace them for a modest sum rather than the eye watering dubarry prices of my ultimas, which when worn with shorts makes me look a knob. But if M&S shoes don't like getting wet it appears to be a waste of fifty quid, so it's bite the the bullet and wedge out for these http://www.sailingclothingstore.co.uk/brands/Dubarry/Deck_Shoes/pr43398_br412.aspx or http://www.sailingclothingstore.co.uk/brands/Dubarry/Deck_Shoes/pr43468_br412.aspx

Or will take advice from the floor,

Please put forward your recommendations.

Got to say, I've just bought a pair of Quayside as my old HL ones where looking dreadful. I don't wear normal deck shoes much as I perfer the trainer style ones with shorts or just bare foot instead.

The quayside's one are very comfortable, cost £34.99 from Marine Superstore and handle the wet very well even if they aren't going to be waterproof.

Just a thought.

Up Date

Got these for 30 squid plus 3.99 postage, I think they're a discontinued line. well, I can't find them on Dubarry's web site.

Same as me
Yet some peeps seem to get on with them as per Posts
Probably Old RYA Instructors or weird types who have built Catamarans and the like

Cheeky git, if you had been wearing a pair you would have had a better grip on your rafters and would not have gone through the ceiling.
