We are on the IOW for the week and have some friends joining and leaving by train.

The Lymington guide suggests the station is a 5 minute walk from the Quay and I see there are a couple of public pontoons down by the Bath road slipway.

Is it possible to pop in a drop/collect people and will the fun police insist on a short stay fee to just throw people off and on the boat (small sportsboat - 5 metres LOA)

I would think you could easily pick up / drop of at town quay either from the inside end of the pontoon or maybe just nose in amongst the dinghys next to the ship . Good luck .

As long as you don't moor within the marked area on the pontoon near the Harbour master office (close to Royal Lymington YC), you can drop/pick up stuff/people, without any problem. The HM guys are extremely helpful & there is no charge (well for berth owners anyway).

Your friends have got a real treat in store, Lymington Town Station is just about the prettiest little station I've ever seen, when I lived in London I thought Kew Station was cute, but Lymington is super cute!

Not so much anymore since the traditional smartly dressed station master was sacked a couple of years ago for going onto the line to clear up litter without permission.

A sad reflection of the world we live in. I totally agree it is a lovely station together with Brading on the Island

If you haven't walked from the station to the quay in Lymington before be aware that there's a path that looks a bit like it's going in to someone's back garden that cuts round towards the river along the edge of the dry stack yard and comes out out behind the Ship Inn. Just keep trying to turn left. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/Lymington+Town/Fishermans+Quay,+Mill+Ln,+Lymington+SO41+9FW,+UK/@50.7598969,-1.5375592,286m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x487386d7318e5431:0x4bcc053699136dd6!2m2!1d-1.537153!2d50.760901!1m5!1m1!1s0x487386d6daa64a4f:0x1b2eb6a438acacb2!2m2!1d-1.5367501!2d50.759542!3e2
