Reading an old pilot book I came across the above abbreviation. In context, "but there is nine feet at L.W.O.S. for at least three cables above the hard." It goes on, quaintly in today's terms "Moorings may be had on application to the boatman (Mr Dore), who will also look after yachts in the owner's absence."
Anybody know what LWOS stood for?
