Apparently Louis Vuitton say they have been very happy sponsoring the challenger series for many years but are increasingly unhappy with the constant focus on money that Alinghi has brought to the event. Specifically they say that if ETNZ were to win the AC they would be happy to remain sponsors of the LV challenger series cos ETNZ's style and values align with Louis Vuitton themselves. But the blatant $$$ representation of Alinghi does not and if Alinghi retain the AC itself then LV will seriously consider withdrawing.

For those of us kiwis supporters it's nice to hear affirmation of ETNZ's 'wholesome' values compared to other syndicates.

But.... does anyone else think it's ironic to hear complaints that "it's all about the money" from a company whose products (outrageously priced luggage) represent one of the today's ultimate status symbols of materialistic excess?!

LV is not just ugly, expensive luggage, it's is a holding co for a whole group of 'if you have to ask the price you can't afford it' and lesser brands.

I am pleased to say that I have not heard of most of those brands. I don't think that I have bought anything because of the brand.

I drive a Kia Sorento 4x4, because it does the job of towing the boat cheaply and hassle free. I buy my clothes from M&S et al. I buy cheap but tasty wine and have no embarrassment at clearing out the marked down meat in the supermarket and enjoyed a delicious £14 leg of lamb last week, which was reduced to £2.69. Yesterday I even got three large ribeye steaks at a total cost of £3.24

Brands mean nothing to me and if people want to throw money at rich companies and make them even richer, just for the brand name, then more fool them.

Am I the only one? Or am I a lone M&S wearing, plonk drinking gypsy, eating supermarket roadkill?

That explains it.

I often wondered how a suitcase maker ( however overpriced the bags were ) could afford to sponsor the AC
