An there she goes ! A great sight for late September

Great pictures i envy you motorboat guys in the miles you can cover in a weekend.

Looks like perfect weather .Unfortunately the coming weekend isnt looking to good. rain and gales again. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Cracking pics, glad you persevered. we were hoping to do something this weekend, but I'm not sure we'll bother looking at the forecast.

Great pics, thanks for posting them, i hoped to get to lundy this summer but is wasnt to be, crap weather and such, never mind next year i`ll wear the boat out.

Only went for the day left sat am had to come back sat night due to kids rugby etc on sun morning. Still we knew it was likely to be the last weekend this year so it was a case of sod the fuel cost lets just do it

Better stay in port then. I am, having a raw water pump overhauled - got a bit of a leak! So ain't going no where.
Bloke recently started up in Bristol is doing it, he has just done the antifoul and legs on a Fairline Flybridge - looks a nice job from what I can see.

Lovely pictures, thank you. I'm encouraged that it's not always as ferocious out there as it seems to be.

While you were out cruising we were exploring the north Somerset side (by car though) as we are about to move our boat to the Channel from the East Coast.

Your pictures got me to buy Peter Cumberlidge's Channel guide and a set of charts in Bristol this week and the urge to explore my home waters, which I've hardly sailed.

Not sure where to base ourselves - Burnham is only 4 miles from our home, Uphill about 5, Portishead is a fine facility but 20 mins up the dreaded M5, Watchet is nice but half an hour slow drive. Porlock Weir is my absolute favourite but that's an hour in the car and a pig in the summer.

Probably be Burnham then - it's close and they seem friendly /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Maybe we'll see a few of you out there yet?

Only 4 miles from home makes it ideal for popping over the boat for the odd hour.I think people who live distant from the boat miss out on a lot of odd hours doing a bit of maintenance or just chilling out.

We have visited BoS a few times and allways made welcome.

Allways been made welcome by Weston Bay YC people as well but the boatyard moorings have very limited tidal access. You would need to have a river mooring to get a decent amount of time afloat each tide.

Agreed. I've been down and chatted to them at BoS and they seem very laid back. The club has been transformed for cruising since they built their pontoons, although we'd probably have a river mooring to start off with.

We used to travel 40 minutes to dinghy sail in the 90's, then 50 minutes to get to our boat on the East Coast. In America we lived on board for 6 months so that was heaven, but we've now gone 2 years without sailing. We have 2 boats, a baby one 250 miles away and laid up and the other 3500 miles away and laid up. Ridiculous - I'm going to go mad if I don't get my life organised again.

Southampton Boat Show got us going again and now I'm really tempted by the idea of having our baby boat back in action and less than 10 minutes away. It would even be possible to do evenings after work, weather/tide permitting. We'd thought about just doing her up and selling here but the more I've looked into the Channel the more I want to spend some time there. She's a little twin keeler so perfect for drying out and the smaller harbours.

So, that's my plan, get her trucked down (to Portishead or Uphill) for work and refit over the winter and then Burnham for the spring. Then see where it takes us after that.

Do you know I was talking to my mate about that in St Davids last weekend. We'd had a pretty rubbish dive and had just finished the hard work of dropping the mooring for the summer. We were just sat there in amongst the moorings in Ramsey sound with the seals and the birds, flask of oxo just absolutely loving sitting on the boat. It was so hard to decide to make the trip around to Porthclais and take the boat out for the end of the season. Just sitting there on the water was lovely.
