Sounds like the thickness of the mounting bracket. Remove bolts and place on the rear of the mounting (if you see what I mean) ! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
As havent a clue suggests if all you did was remove it from its mounting and put it back again you put it back wrongly.
Take it off again and try to position it 10mm further back.
You did not also remove the mounting as well did you and put that back the wrong way round.
Mine has a spacer on the mounting bolt, which obviously needs to go on the correct end. When I replaced the alternator I drilled out a nut and used a couple of washers to get the right fore and aft position on the mounting
You do not state the type of LSUK Alt,but here goes. The non drive end has what looks like a roll pin protruding out of the alloy arm, position the alt. in its running position and TAP with light blows the pin either in or out, this will position the bracket for the correct distance required, then check to see if the two arms are a sliding fit and then bolt non pin end FIRST then tighten the pin end, this will now slide a bit and find its own place in relation to the backet. Might solve your problem.
