LPG fumigation for Diesel engines

Did anyone hear about this system?
They say that it saves costs (fuel and maintenance), reduces break downs, reduces engine temperature, reduces air pollution smoke noise and smell, keeps engine head clean, gives engine more power etc.
Please share your experience with me.

When I had my car converted to lpg I read that it waqs possible to convert a diesel but it had to run on a mixture of diesel and lpg, forget the proportions but that seemed to make it uneconomic, and I thoink the conversion was expensive compared to a petrol engine. Just didn't see why antone would want to do it.

This is quite a common thing with diesel trucks and cars, 4X4 etc. LPG is half the price of petrol here and diesel is dearer again for some unknown reason. Up until recently I had a ute with a Chev 350 on gas. Spark plugs stay clean, no pollution gear required, oil stays clean. Cold start in winter engine idles smoothly straight away, no choke controls. Diesel conversions are the same. Big advantage though is you get rid of all those troublesome injector pumps/injectors etc.

I think I posted on this.
I had some data from a specialist LPG converter. The deisel conversion just adds a portion (about20%) of LPG to the deisel. This can be used to improve either fuel consumption or power. The conversion was quite expensive and I would worry about increasing the power if this is beyond the engine design output? I didnt pursue it further although my car has been on gas for 3 years now (no probs. and good savings)

I don't understand how you get LPG into a diesel engine.
It can't go through the injector pump unless you do some very clever pressurising on the input side so you need a carburettor/demand valve as well - seems like a waste of time + money.
Also the combustion of LPG if injected would be somewhat explosive, if aspirated into a diesel engine + then compressed it would pre-ignite.
I used to run a Mercedes Unimog on LPG (propne actually) and got significantly less power out than from petrol, so much so that the running costs worked out about the same.
Finally one good reason to use diesel is to get rid of the petrol explosion hazard, LPG is much more dangerous than petrol.

we used to run our shipping pumps on gas stripped from the crude we were transferring to tankers. they were french manufactured, 6 cylinder inline, about 10 litre capacity. they were started on diesel and then switched over to gas. the gas went through a simple manifold and speed was regulated by amount of gas fed in.
many of the diesels we used in the oil field usually had an inlet manifold strangler fitted to stop the engine in an emergency in case of gas leaks. if any gas was to get into the engine it would auto ignite and overspeed to destruction, easy start works in the same way, ether (the main constituent) is just a gas that ignites under compression. that is also why you can start and run a diesel on wd40, the propellant i suspect is propane or something similar. try it some time on a cheap diesel engine that doesnt belong to you!! or if you are having trouble with the donk give it a blast of wd and keep it running on it!!
