I use a Lowrance Globalmap 3300c and recently had two instances of an error message "GPS Module not responding" appear.
Once was in Devonport and once as I was coming out of the Avon into the Severn by Avonmouth.
I contacted Silva (UK main dealer) and was asked whether or not I was near any active radar. The answer was yes, Devonport the Navy and on the mouth of the Avon there is a port control radar.
Apparently the radar can muck up the system. The problem has been solved by Lowrance who have modified the antenna, presumably some screening is put in there.
Silva have repleced my antenna without query and I've received excellent service from them.
However, talking to one of my clients who is a gps specialist he thinks that the problem with the radars is that they may be operating slightly out of band and that is what has mucked my set up. I'll have to wait and see!

When I used to Seismic work .... there was a great big Defence radar and that used to blat out VHF, our on-board X and S band radars had spoking, the Syledis nav would have glitches ...... we were told that it was the power of the defence radar - not band or of-freq .... just the sheer power of the thing .....
