Has anyone been able to upload waypoints to thes ethings, I have tried everythig on various website, the lowrance emulator, GDM6....all to no avail.
The NMEA commands don't seem to be in this unit so can't do it that way.
It seem the only way to plot waypoints is to manuall enter them into the unit which is a right royal PITA. and seems a real old fashioned way of doing things.
I have spend over £500 squids on this unit and whilst teh unit and NuaticPath charts are very good value, they are very limited and would not recommend Lowrance again.
A really miffed

create in GMD6 then transfer via an SD MMC to the unit and import via menu function.

Others will no doubt point out that 'over 500' is excessive for the unit too - but still good value when compared with other specced machines ie 480x480 pixels.

There is another post somewhere on here about waypoint importing about 5 weeks ago I think - maybe PBO forum.

Try to contact SmallBoatChamp (SBC) ( Martin Luther) - he is very much in favour of this kit ( as I am) and he will almost certainly answer your questions. I personally haven't tried to download waypoints but it is good kit - stick with it.

Hi All,

I have GMD6 but it only opens teh default map, which makes south coast and france look lik eone of my drawings :-(

Is there a way of getting GMD6 to open the Nautic Path Chart?

I paid £440 for the 3500 and £125 for the Ifinder pro and which included the Nautic Path west Europe. Good value I thought....

Cheers
Roy

If you have any means of plotting on the PC - you can probably convert to *.usr files that can then be uploaded using the MMC card.

Something like: http://www.gpsu.co.uk will allow conversion to / from most formats or GPS babel (free).

I've done this without problem from a range of PC packages.
It is an extra hop but not too painful as only needed if you have lots of waypoints to upload.

I've not tried uploading points via NMEA

[/ QUOTE ] nope

this seems to be a carry over from the Navionics days when they (Navionics) wouldn't permit the use ie their copy protection method prevented it.

if you want to enter via charting then use the unit itself - so simple.

if you want to rename them from a quick numerical save then scribble down the names matched with the preset machine dictated numbering, export to card, import to gmd6, edit with keyboard and reverse.

Personally I make all route up on the fly now anyway as the redraw times are so fast zoming in and out isn't the same time consuming problem it once was.

alternatively plot from paper at home and enter/import or take them off the various publications and do the same. Whilst some suggest this is 'dangerous' I actually think it's a double check as they will be diplayed on your mapping for a quick check and provide you with a check on 'why there?' if they look different from where you would choose.

A bit of info.
Both Fugawi and OziExplorer will save routes and waypoints in Lowrance format (.usr). They seem to work OK but there also seems to be a second or 2 discrepancy. Which is livable...until I run aground heheheheheheh.

I may buy teh Mapcreate program from US ($78ish ) with the LEI reader, it seems this will allow backup copies of the main chart and open the chart on a PC....If I find out for def I'll let you know.

Thanks for the help.

I little bit happier
