Lowestoft boat capsize: Man dies and two others feared missing

Sounds as if one was wearing a buoyancy aid and the other 2 were not? Not sadly that it saved him. Perhaps a lifejacket might have made a difference?

This time of year (March - April) the sea water is at its coldest.
A lifejacket might have kept them afloat, but I fear hypothermia would have killed them long before rescue arrived.

When I last re-took my grey funnel sea survival course (in 2007) I was told that this time of year unconsciousness would set in at after around 12 minutes in the water.
Not a cheerful figure.

Had the job of extricating someone from a car he'd parked in a river a few years back at about this time of year, only in the water up to my waist but after ten minutes I could hardly move and had to be rescued myself. So that figure does sound about right, and no it's not very cheerful
