Just about to make landfall around Lowestoft in around 3 hours after a 3 day passage from Norway. Never sailed around here before but we'll be stuck waiting a few days for the SW winds to pass before heading West along the English Channel.

Can anyone recommended nice places around Lowestoft, River Blyth or River Alde? Which would be a good places to make landfall and spend a few days?

Thanks!

Blyth/Southwold is a one-destination stop and a pricey berth with questionable facilities and a stiff tide to contend with if you're not on a floating pontoon. Its very quaint & scenic though, the town 45 mins walk away is pricey, cutesey & packed with trippers at this time of year, as is the harbour area.
Ore and Alde a stunningly beautiful, utterly peaceful and huge estuary system that you can easily spend 3 days exploring and anchor anywhere. Supplies avilable in Aldeburgh. estuary coulsn't ever get crowded or even busy, its too big. Entrance requires care but is not really hard.
Lowestoft RNSYC usual marina prices, classy traditional friendly old fashioned yacht club but the town is a dump. Can be noisy at night with the bridge clanking and banging as traffic passes, drunks hollering til 0400 etc. Railway station 200m away.
Gt Yarmouth and beyond into the broads rivers (suggest Yare for simplicity) via lift bridges that are dead easy to deal with and fascinating exploration of Breydon Water and the river for the 20 odd miles to Norwich. Beautiful! Plenty of free moorings and riverside pubs. You may need a Broads Authority visitors permit to navigate the Yare, I dont have details about that. Convenient railway connection at Brundall if you can't get under the Postwick bridge to Norwich (around 10m iirc). Deep water all the way. Norwich is one of the finest cities in the land.

For me with 3 days , Ore and Alde or Yare would win hands down.

It's an uninspiring part of the world for cruising unless you can fit in the Broads.

And old top tip for Lowestoft though, last time I was there no one seemed to know who was responsible for the dock next the the Lifeboat opposite the RNSYC, so no one ever came to ask for money. Things might have changed though, not been there for five years.
